Only 37 buildings are connected to the Ķegums heating network, 13 of them private, so the detached houses by the Daugava and at the edge of the forest have their own stoves, boilers and saunas. Cleaning costs from €100 per flue, and the cleaning certificate and the call-out are included.
37 connections: what this means for homes in Ķegums
District heating in Ķegums is supplied by the municipal company SIA “Ķeguma Stars”. Its website lists 37 heat connections: 14 managed residential buildings, 9 municipal buildings and 13 private buildings. In the other homes in town, heat is produced on site, and every flue needs its own cleaning: with a certificate or, in a private house, done by the owner.
In the managed apartment buildings the flats usually have no flue but do have ventilation ducts, which are cleaned and checked once every 10 years, once every five years in rooms with gas appliances, with a certificate each time: ventilation duct cleaning.

Masonry stoves and cookers
A masonry stove stores heat for longer than three hours, so its flue is cleaned once a year, by 1 November. In the internal flue channels of a stove, ash and soot collect in the bends, and they are removed through the cleaning doors. If a stove and a wood-burning cooker are connected to one chimney, each in its own channel, each has a separate entry in the certificate.
Every five years solid-fuel appliances and flues also need a technical condition inspection, recorded on the official certificate form. This inspection reveals cracks, crumbling joints and places where the flue touches wooden structures. More: stove and fireplace cleaning and chimney sweep's condition report.
Firewood and pellet boilers
A boiler is a long-burn appliance that does not store heat for longer than three hours, so its flue is cleaned twice: by 1 November and once more between 1 November and 1 March. A firewood boiler run at low output to make the wood burn longer produces more tar; the fine ash of a pellet boiler can mix with condensation at the chimney base and harden.
When cleaning a boiler flue, we also clean the flue pipe between the boiler and the chimney and the chimney base below the cleaning door. More: boiler flue cleaning and chimney cleaning in winter.
Saunas by the Daugava and the reservoir
Ķegums lies by the Daugava and the hydropower plant reservoir, surrounded by woodland. If the house has a sauna in the garden or on the bank, keep in mind that a sauna stove is a long-burn appliance, so its flue is cleaned like a boiler's: twice, if the sauna is also used in winter. A sauna flue is often a metal pipe through a wooden ceiling, so the insulation where it crosses the ceiling is important.
If the sauna flue needs replacing or building from scratch: sauna flue installation. For cleaning: sauna stove cleaning.

Businesses and outbuildings
Ķegums also has technical and energy sites, workshops and outbuildings with their own stove or boiler. A business or institution needs a certificate after every cleaning, because the exception applies only to a private-house owner who cleans the chimney themselves. If the site is in a closed area, say so in the request. More: chimney sweep for businesses.
Ogre municipality rules on burning branches and leaves
The Ogre municipality waste regulations apply in Ķegums. They forbid burning household waste and biowaste (leaves, grass) unless the municipality has announced a burning period; the explanatory note to the regulations says one can be announced between 1 October and 31 March. Outside towns and villages only dry wood residues and dry branches without leaves may be burned.
For a stove and a boiler this means: the fuel is dry firewood, pellets or briquettes. Garden waste and packaging produce thick soot in the firebox, and if it catches fire in the chimney, first call 112 and after that do not use the flue until it has been checked.

Route to Ķegums and price
Ķegums is reached by the A6 or along the railway, from the Ogre side towards Lielvārde. The hydropower plant, the Daugava and technical areas limit the roads, so in the request give the exact address and, if the house is outside town, the type of road to it.
Chimney cleaning in Ķegums costs from €100 per flue, usually €100–130, and the certificate and the call-out are included; cleaning a stove, boiler or sauna stove flue costs the same. The condition report, sauna flue installation and repairs are priced for your situation. All prices: prices.
