Every house has its own heating

According to the map, Trīsciems is not included in the district heating zone of AS “Rīgas siltums” (the map reflects the situation on 01.01.2019), so each house produces its own heat. Usually it is a boiler in the basement or a utility room with its own flue, and often a fireplace in the living room as well. We ask you to give the number of flues and the appliances in your request, because the price and the length of the job depend on exactly that.

On the municipal zoning map Trīsciems looks like zone III. That is our own reading, so before replacing a boiler check the zone on the map on the page of the municipal Heat Supply Commission. In zone III the rules first require assessing a zero-emission solution or the heating network, then solid biomass, and only then gas.

A wood boiler and tar

A wood boiler with a large firebox and a buffer tank often burns with a reduced air supply. Then the flue gases are cooler, and tar settles in the flue rather than dry soot. Tar is sticky and can catch fire. Burning out soot is forbidden, so we remove tar mechanically with suitable brushes and scrapers. More: chimney tar removal.

Pellet and gas boilers

• Pellet boiler: the ash is fine and builds up in the flue pipe, in the bends and at the chimney base by the cleaning door. We clean the whole route from the boiler to the top.
• Condensing gas boiler: the flue must be made of a material that withstands acidic condensate. An old brick channel without a liner is not suitable for it.
• Gas boiler: servicing and inspection once a year; if the boiler has not been used for more than six months, an extraordinary check with a certificate is needed before it is switched on.

A fireplace in the living room

Even if the fireplace is only lit now and then, its flue must still be cleaned at least once a year. If the fireplace has a metal firebox that stores heat for a short time, the same two deadlines apply to it as to a boiler. A new build or a rebuild

If you are building a new house or rebuilding an old one, the flue needs a technical condition certificate before it is put into service. We check the height of the chimney above the roof (no less than 0.5 m above the covering), the distances to combustible structures and the positions of the cleaning doors. Roads and price

In Trīsciems access is along Jaunciema gatve and local roads, and the choice of public transport here is limited. Forests, water and sparse buildings mean that access to some houses changes with the season. If the house is some way off a tarmac road, write that in your request.
