Suži is a sparsely built-up neighbourhood on the north-east shore of Lake Ķīšezers, and apkaimes.lv lists small areas of detached houses between forests here. We clean the flues of heating boilers, fireplaces and sauna stoves, draw up a certificate and, if needed, a technical condition report. Flue cleaning costs from €100.
Why every house in Suži has its own chimney
The Riga air quality action programme 2026–2030 says that the share of buildings with individual heating is highest in the north of Riga and on the outskirts of the city, where there is no district heating network. Suži is just such an outlying area: about 420 residents, gardens, low-rise houses and wide natural areas.
In practice this means that a house usually has one or two flues for the heating boiler or stove, often also a fireplace in the living room and a sauna in the garden. Each of them is cleaned and described separately in the certificate.

A wood, pellet or gas boiler: what it changes
- A wood boiler run with a reduced air supply leaves more tar in the flue. The flue of a long-burn appliance is cleaned by 1 November and once more between 1 November and 1 March.
- A pellet boiler gives fine, dry ash that builds up in the flue pipe and at the chimney base. If the flue is too cool, condensation forms in it. More: pellet boiler flue cleaning.
- A gas boiler needs servicing and inspection once a year. A brick flue is cleaned and inspected once a year, a lined or metal one once every two years.
The work on wood and pellet boilers is described on the page heating boiler flue cleaning. If the flue has a thick, glossy layer of tar, it cannot be removed with an ordinary brush.

Lake, forest and damp
Lake Ķīšezers, the forests and the lower spots in Suži make for a damp environment. In an uninsulated metal flue or an old brick channel outside the warm part of the house the smoke cools faster, and damp soot settles on the walls. Such a flue is often worth insulating: chimney insulation.
Near forests, leaves and needles often fall into the top of the chimney, and in spring birds tend to build nests in it. A cap helps against this, and the rules allow caps and deflectors. About fitting one: chimney cap installation.
A sauna in the garden
A metal sauna stove stores heat for a short time, so under the rules it counts as a long-burn appliance, just like a boiler. If the sauna is also used in winter, the flue is cleaned twice: by 1 November and once more by 1 March. In a sauna stove soot also builds up between the stone container and the flue pipe, so we clean both the flue and the stove channels. More: sauna stove cleaning.
Can you clean your own chimney in Suži
Yes. The owner of a private house may clean their own solid-fuel flue themselves, and then no certificate is needed. A certificate is needed if the house has two or more flats, if the flue serves a gas appliance or if someone else cleans it. Many insurers require in their terms that the chimney is cleaned at least once a year, and after a fire a certificate is the simplest proof. More: can you clean your own chimney.

If you replace the old boiler
The Riga heat supply rules set their own requirements for new appliances in each zone. In all zones an existing appliance in a private house may be replaced with a new appliance meeting the ecodesign requirements, of up to 50 kW, if the type of fuel does not change. New appliances must be registered with the Riga Energy Agency. Before you buy a boiler, check your house's zone on the zoning map on the page of the municipal Heat Supply Commission.
Before the new boiler is used, you need a certificate on whether it may be connected to the existing flue. We prepare it together with a technical condition report.

Price and access
Cleaning one flue with a certificate costs from €100, usually €100–130, with the call-out included. Each flue is described separately in the certificate. A condition report, a camera inspection, insulation and a cap are priced for your situation. All prices: prices.
The main road in Suži is Jaunciema gatve, then local roads. If the house is reached by a gravel or forest road or if the gates are locked, write that in your request.
